Day Five: Developing Concentration

Welcome to day 5 of your ten-day focus meditation journey.

Today we’re going to be talking about developing concentration and doing a concentration meditation.

The inability to concentrate is a problem that many more people experience than you might even think.

Our modern-day lifestyles don’t make it easy for us to concentrate on one task for very long and it’s really something that’s affecting a large portion of the general population.

So whether you try to concentrate and your mind keeps drifting off to other things or you find it hard to concentrate on one thing for more than a couple seconds at a time, lacking concentration can seriously affect many different aspects of your life.

(2 Second Pause)

From keeping up with work and school to maintaining positive and healthy relationships, the ability to concentrate is vital.

Thanks to the internet and our fast-paced lifestyles, the ability to hold our concentration has become increasingly difficult to say the least.

Meditation though, is an excellent way to learn how to increase your concentration and strengthen your focus.

Developing concentration is only going to increase your overall quality of life and can literally lead to profound changes in the way you view the world.

Anyone who wishes to be more successful or efficient in their everyday undertakings will do so by developing more concentration.

It’s only going to benefit your life. It’s going to improve your memory, increase your comprehension, aid in studying, and help you achieve your goals more easily.

Without the ability to mastering concentration of your mind, you’re simply going to bounce from one idea to the next and really keep you from seeing any progress.

(2 Second Pause)

Developing concentration and increasing mental focus go hand in hand.

You cannot have one without the other.

This is why in order to live a focused life, one must develop concentration.

(2 Second Pause)

So today we’re going to go ahead and invite more concentration into our lives so we can live our best lives.

If you already haven’t done so, go ahead and get yourself as comfortable as possible….and just enjoy the time you’re giving yourself to increase your focus and develop more concentration.

(2 Second Pause)

You can either choose to sit or lie down.

Just find a position that feels the most comfortable to you in this moment.

You might want to sit on the floor in the traditional meditation position or sit on a chair, back straight, legs and feet just planted firmly to the floor.

(2 Second Pause)

If lying down feels more comfortable to you right now, just lie down on the floor or on your bed and just really begin to focus on your breath.

(2 Second Pause)

Allow your eyes to relax

As you begin to invite a deeper breath, you can either choose to keep them open or gently close the eyes.

(5 Second Pause)

We’re going to begin this meditation by simply focusing on the rise and fall of the breath.

Just breathe in

(2 Second Pause)

And breathe out

(4 Second Pause)

The only thing you need to do is concentrate on your breath.

Each inhale

(3 Second Pause)

And each exhale

(3 Second Pause)

Just allow yourself to let go of any other thoughts you might have and….bring your concentration to your breath.

(2 Second Pause)

Just simply observe each inhale…and gently release each exhale.

(30 Second Pause)

If the mind begins to wander, just notice that your thoughts have drifted and bring them back to the present moment.

Remember that all you need to do is focus on your breath.

(2 Second Pause)

Concentrate on the natural rhythm of each inhale

(3 Second Pause)

And each exhale

(5 Second Pause)

The only point of your concentration should be on the rise and fall of your breath.

(33 Second Pause)

Go ahead and bring your attention to the way your breath feels as you breathe in deeply through your nose

(2 Second Breath Count)

And now notice the sensation as you exhale, releasing any tension you might be holding onto.

(2 Second Pause)

Just continue to breath in this concentrated effort for ten more breaths.

(55 Second Pause)

If your mind has wandered simply bring yourself back to the present moment

Bring your attention to your breath.

Breathe in

(2 Second Pause)

And breathe out.

(4 Second Pause)

The ability to increase your concentration comes from the ability to concentrate on a single object for a determined amount of time.

(2 Second Pause)

Bringing our focused attention to the breath, helps us to train the mind and become more accustomed to concentrating for longer periods of time.

(2 Second Pause)

Whenever you notice your mind begin to wander…just bring your concentration back to the breath.

And become aware of each inhale

(2 Second Pause)

And each exhale

(3 Second Pause)

The ability to concentrate can be increased by bringing focused attention to each breath.

(5 Second Pause)

Through concentrated meditaion, where the mind is intentionally focused on every single breath taken, the ability to focus for longer periods of time will begin to naturally increase.

(2 Second Pause)

All you need to do is simply focus on the breath.

(20 Second Pause)

No matter where your mind might be right now, just go ahead and bring yourself back to the present moment.

(2 Second Pause)

If you’ve lost focus of the breath, don’t judge yourself.

(2 Second Pause)

Simply be aware that your mind has wandered and each time you notice it do so, bring your attention back to the breath.

(2 Second Pause)

Right now, go ahead and invite a deeper breath.

(2 Second Pause)

Maybe wiggle your fingers and toes and just feel your physical presence come back to this time and space.

(2 Second Pause)

If your eyes have been closed you can choose to gently open them now.

(2 Second Pause)

Just take a moment to feel any differences you might feel now compared to when we first started this meditation.

Be sure that before you get up to continue on with your day that you really give yourself a minute to appreciate the time you’ve given yourself to further develop your concentration.

You should be proud of yourself for taking the time to increase your quality of life by really improving your ability to focus and concentrate.

(2 Second Pause)

We’ll see you back again tomorrow for more ways to increase your focus through the power of meditation.

Our modern-day lifestyles don’t make it easy for us to concentrate on one task for very long and it’s really something that’s affecting a large portion of the general population.
